Run Ricky Run

As the school bell rang announcing the end of the day, 12-year-old Jonathan ran to meet his best friend, Ricky, who was waiting in the hall.  Ricky had been injured a year before in a car accident that left him with no feeling in his legs.  Now he used a wheelchair.
Jonathan quickly put the baseball schedule, he had just received, in his backpack.  Before his accident Ricky had loved playing baseball.  Even if he didn’t see the schedule, Ricky would know it was sign up time.
“Hey, man,” said Jonathan, as he raised his hand to Ricky for a high-five.
“Hey,” answered Ricky, giving Jonathan a high-five.
“You ready to go to the bus?”
    “Yep, let’s go.”
Jonathan gave him a quick whirl around in his wheelchair, then pushed him toward the bus.
That evening at the dinner table Jonathan was quiet. His mom noticed his silence.
“What’s wrong, Jon? You seem awfully quiet tonight, how come?” she said.
“Well, I’m thinking about Ricky.  I know he misses playing baseball, and I want to sign up for the summer team. I feel like I shouldn‘t do it, ’cause it might make him feel bad.  He plays catch with his dad in their backyard.  I wish he could play with us somehow.”
