“I will,” promised Stephen.
“Jonathan, do you want to go too?” asked dad.
Stephen quickly chimed in with, “No, daddy.
Grandpa just wants me to go with him. Not Jonathan.”
Jonathan said, “That’s ok, grandpa and I will go later.
We’re serious fishermen.”
So Stephen ran to join grandpa on the dock.
Grandpa said, “We’ll go out in the boat to the deep
water. Is that ok?”
“That’s great, grandpa.”
Grandpa untied the boat and started the motor and
backed out to turn around. Stephen sat looking very serious and
excited to be going fishing alone with his grandpa. They arrived at a place
in the middle of the lake and grandpa turned the motor off and dropped
anchor. Stephen began to get his pole out and started swinging his
pole around.
“Now, Stephen, first thing to remember is never dangle
your pole in front of anybody. The hook can really hurt someone. ok?“
said grandpa.
“Ok”
“Now, I’m going to bait your hook for you, so watch
carefully. All fishermen must learn how to bait their hooks.”
“Ok, I’m watchin.” said Stephen. His eyes got
bigger as he watched the hook being run through the squirming worm.
“Oh, yuk,” said Stephen as he wrinkled up his nose.
“Now, that’s how you do it. So put your line gently
into the water and wait for a fish to come.” said grandpa.
