The Magic of the Butterflies

Next Page

Five year old Wendy was helping her daddy weed the flower garden. She looked down and saw a fat, furry, brown, white and yellow banded caterpillar inching its way toward her feet.
“Daddy, daddy,” she shouted and pointed. “Look, look.”
    “Its a caterpillar, honey.”
    “A caterpillar?” said Wendy.
“Yes, hon, would you believe that this pretty little caterpillar will turn into a beautiful butterfly someday?”
Looking again at the ground, Wendy saw another caterpillar, but quite smaller than the first one.
“See daddy, another one. A little kittenpillar.”
Her daddy laughed as he scooped up the biggest caterpillar in  his hand and showed it to her.
“Daddy, how do they turn into butterflies?” asked Wendy.
“Well,” said daddy, “Its the magical way of nature. This caterpillar was hatched from a tiny egg-so tiny that you can hardly see it. After about 5 days, the little caterpillar eats a hole in the shell and comes out.”
